Gary Baisa

Gary is originally from Tinley Park, Illinois.  He obtained a bachelor's degree and master's degree at Northern Illinois University in 1998 and 2001, respectively.  After graduating with his masters he worked for Abbott laboratory's Molecular Diagnostics division for a little over 2 years.  He is currently starting his fourth year of his doctoral studies at UW as part of the microbiology doctoral training program (MDTP).

Gary is working on the D-serine/UPEC project in the Welch lab studying the regulation of the dsdCXA locus.  Currently, he is focusing on further characterizing the regulator of the dsdCXA locus, DsdC, by attempting to identify the DsdC DNA binding site.  He is also working with an undergraduate student, Aaron Schmidt, characterizing the dsdCXA intergenic and it role in the regulation of dsdC and dsdXA expression.
